Medical Student Information

Deciding and joining a medical education program is one of many important decision you will make in your journey to becoming a physician.  At Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital we are dedicated to assisting you by providing you with the knowledge and skills through our clerkship or elective programs and offer a variety of undergraduate programs to fit your career interest. 

Affiliations

Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital is affiliated with Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM), Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB), and Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM)

Eligibility and Priority 

Third-year core rotations are reserved for Michigan State University and Kansas City University (KCUMB). Third-year scheduling and student placement is determined by the university.

Fourth-year rotations are provided based on the rotations availability and approval from the program director.

All students are required to complete orientation on the first day of the rotation. 

Rotation Request 

Request for audition or elective rotation are approved by the program no later than 60 days prior to the rotation start date. Please review our medical student rotation request for important information regarding rotation request and timelines.

Policies

Insurance

All students are required to have personal health insurance. Ascension does not accept liability for emergency health cost incurred during student rotations.

Required Immunizations

Students are required to provide a copy of the following immunizations before starting a visiting rotation:

  • Annual Influenza Vaccination (required October 1-April 30)
  • Tuberculin-skin test within the last 12-months of starting rotation. TINE NOT Accepted. (Chest X-Ray required if positive)
  • Effective November 13, 2021 Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital requires all associates, volunteers, visiting residents, and medical students obtain their COVID vaccination. Associates may only decline vaccination if they provide supporting documentation of an acceptable medical or religious reason.

Housing Arrangement

Housing is available on a first-come-first serve basis on the Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital-Madison Heights Campus. Space is limited and it is recommended you apply for housing at the time application. The apartments are double and quadruple rooms. Each unit is furnished with stove, refrigerator, couch and tables. Students are required to provide their own bedding and bathroom toiletries
