Ascension All Saints Hospital - PGY1
Pharmacy Residency Program

Meet Our Residents

Daniel Bassler, PharmD

Resident

Daniel Bassler grew up in Winthrop Harbor, IL, and recently graduated from Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, IL.  When he originally graduated from high school he was pursuing a degree in business. However, after taking several business courses, it did not pique his interest as he had hoped. So, through a twist of events, he decided to pursue a degree in pharmacy, and he is satisfied with his decision. Currently his interests include general medicine, critical care, oncology, and academia. His yearlong project is the development and implementation of effective resident and preceptor recognition strategies to improve preceptor satisfaction and retention incorporating processes to monitor well-being.

Outside of work, he enjoys being outside in the nice, hot weather (but not humid).  He also enjoys riding his bike and taking his dogs for a walk at the lake. After residency, he plans to resume traveling and experience different cultures by traveling to different countries.

Faryal Amir, PharmD

Resident
Faryal is from Schaumburg, IL, and went to Loyola University - Chicago to complete her pre-pharmacy prerequisites. Later, she went to Midwestern University - Downers Grove, IL to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy degree.  Her clinical interest is infectious disease and she would like to pursue a PGY-2 in Infectious Disease.   For her electives, she will pursue a rotation in oncology and participate in a teaching certificate program.  Her year-long project will be focused on monitoring adult patients who are started on TPN and how long they have not been eating before TPN initiation and remain on TPN. She enjoys playing tennis for her park district as well as traveling and exploring the world.  She believes traveling not only opens up many doors for learning about other cultures, but it also enhances your own experiences in life.

John Gall, PharmD

Resident
John was born and raised in Mayfield Village, OH and received his PharmD from the University of Findlay in Findlay, OH. His clinical interests are working with infectious diseases, emergency medicine, and internal medicine. He has chosen academia and oncology for his rotational electives. His longitudinal project will be the evaluation of blood culture contamination patients at Ascension All Saints Hospital over a 6-12 month period and analyzing the number of inpatients identified with a blood culture positive for coagulase negative staphylococcus species. In his free time he enjoys listening to music, going on drives, and playing video games. He earned his Eagle Scout award in 2017 and is an active member of Alpha Omega Zeta, the professional pharmacy fraternity.
