General Surgery Residency Mission, Aims and Diversity
Mission Statement
The General Surgery Residency program at Ascension Genesys Hospital provides a dedicated learning experience in a community setting to train physicians to provide high quality surgical care. The program affords trainees excellent exposure and sufficient case volume to allow young surgeons the opportunity to gain hands-on experiential care for surgical patients. The program strives to train residents to provide high quality, patient-centered surgical care in a community where we commit ourselves to serving all persons with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable. We maintain a strong connection to the larger Ascension vision and values by creating an atmosphere of integrity, creativity and dedication through education and experience.
Program Aims
The General Surgery Residency program aims to graduate well-trained, competent surgeons who have acquired necessary skills to enter active surgical practice. Additionally, the aim is to graduate surgeons who will positively impact the lives of their patients and contribute professionally in the communities in which they establish practice. Although the program aims to graduate surgeons who are interested in practicing in a community-based setting, we strive to offer a comprehensive fundamental training experience that would afford graduates the opportunity to compete for subspecialty training, if interested.
Diversity Statement
The recruitment, selection and retention of all trainee, faculty and administrative personnel comply with the EEOC guidelines regarding: a person’s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability or genetic information. Ascension ministries have a strong diversity commitment at a national level, which is embedded in our mission and motivates us toward achieving a diverse and inclusive culture at all levels of the organization.
