Ascension Wisconsin
Transitional Year Program
Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital - St. Joseph Campus Transitional Year
The program provides ample flexibility to allow each resident to individualize his/her schedule to meet career and personal goals. It is designed to satisfy the needs of medical school graduates who have decided on a career specialty that requires a preliminary year of broad-based clinical education, desire a broader base of clinical experience than is provided within the graduate education program for their chosen career; or are undecided as to their specialty choice within the field of medicine.
All Medical students who receive their degree prior to July 1 of the year of graduation are eligible for the transitional year program. Candidates are interviewed and accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS), and only 14 positions are available each year through the NRMP Match.
Transitional Year staff are expected to attend daily morning report, Noon Conference and Wednesday Grand Rounds. Attendance is monitored to assure compliance with ACGME standards.
Frequency of call during Ward Medicine months is every fourth night. During electives undertaken at St. Joseph, there is no call required. Call during electives offered through our Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) affiliation varies on each service rotation. All Transitional Year program trainees will work with experienced residents, fellows and MCW medical students.
