Director's Welcome
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Ascension St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis (Milwaukee) Residency Program. Congratulations! You have reached the most important stage of your training: OB/GYN Residency! Our mission is to graduate compassionate, highly skilled obstetrician-gynecologists driven to provide high-quality care with a focus on caring for underserved and special populations. We aim to attract residents who are seeking a rigorous, hands-on training environment that emphasizes both clinical excellence and compassionate patient care. We focus on quality, safety, and teamwork to ensure that our residents have the skills necessary to become future healthcare leaders. Our program has been specifically designed to provide extensive training in all areas of women’s health, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Our board-certified faculty includes subspecialists in Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Urogynecology, and Complex Family Planning. The faculty fosters a collegial and fun environment in which to learn and grow as a person, clinician, and surgeon.
We wish you much success as you begin your career as an OB/GYN and hope we can share in this journey. We look forward to considering your application!
Amy Tamburrino, MD, Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program Director

Our Program Aims
1. Our program aims to provide comprehensive clinical training at two distinct sites: St Joseph's Hospital is dedicated to serving a medically underserved community, and is the location of the resident clinic, the Women’s Outpatient Center. This will ensure residents gain diverse clinical experience and understand the unique healthcare needs of underserved populations. Columbia St Mary's (CSM), a cutting-edge healthcare facility that serves a broad patient population across urban Milwaukee and the surrounding areas. There are additional off-site rotations in Complex Family Planning, Reproductive Endocrinology, and Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, where residents will gain valuable subspecialty experience.
2. Multifarious surgical experiences will produce strong gynecologic surgeons with expertise in the full surgical scope of our specialty. Rotations are designed to maximize inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory gynecologic surgery opportunities. In addition, residents will rotate in subspecialty ambulatory clinics where they will gain knowledge in preoperative counseling and preparation.
3. Comprehensive ambulatory experiences will prepare residents for independent practice: The main OB-GYN residency clinic is housed within the Women’s Outpatient Center at St. Joseph's Hospital, a safety-net community clinic serving patients at risk for disparate health outcomes due to complex health needs and adverse social determinants of health. This clinic has social workers, care coordinators, and other health care providers to ensure broad access to needed community resources. This clinic provides consistent, high-quality care and allows residents to build long-term patient relationships, improving health outcomes for marginalized groups. Additionally, residents will have exposure to subspecialty clinics during outpatient and subspecialty rotations.
4. Following Ascension's Mission, integrate Faith-based Healthcare Principles in Community Care: We aim to embed Faith-based healthcare values, emphasizing compassion, respect, and holistic care, into the residency program. This includes providing spiritual support and addressing the social determinants of health to enhance patient care within the community. Providing a supportive learning and working environment that fosters teamwork will allow physicians to grow as role models for professionalism, caring, and compassion.
5. Implement Community-Based Quality Improvement Projects: We aim to engage residents in community-based quality improvement (QI) projects. These projects will address specific health disparities and system inefficiencies in the local community, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and resident involvement in public health initiatives.
6. We aim to build leaders in medicine, as we recruit and train pioneering residents who can shape the medical landscape in the current state and the future. We will continue to aim to enhance faculty expertise through continuous professional development programs focused on teaching, leadership, and community health, ensuring excellence in resident education and patient care.
