Ascension Wisconsin Ambulatory Care - PGY2

PGY2 Program Purpose

PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.

Expectations

  • Co-precepting IPPE and APPE pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy residents
  • Attend Ascension National Ambulatory Care Journal Club
  • Participation on Ascension Wisconsin and Ascension National committees
  • Teach Cardiac Rehabilitation classes
  • Assist in the development of guidelines, protocols, competencies, and new services
  • Leadership book club
  • Major project will be presented at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, Wisconsin Pharmacy Residency Conference, and Ascension Virtual Residency Conference

Required Rotations:

  • Orientation (2-4 weeks)
  • Thrombosis/Anticoagulation Clinic (4 weeks/8 hours per day, Monday-Friday)
  • Family Medicine I (4 weeks/8 hours per day, Monday-Friday)
  • Family Medicine II (16 weeks/8 hours per week)
  • Family Medicine III (24 weeks/8 hours per week)
  • Cardiology (16 weeks/8 hours per week)
  • Cardiac and Pulmonary rehabilitation (One day per quarter)
  • Ambulatory Care Administration (8 weeks/24 hours per week)
  • Practice Management (24 weeks/8 hours per week)
  • Research Project (11 months/8 hours per week)
  • Staffing (11 months/One Saturday per month 8:30 am to 2:00 pm)
  • Facilitated Educational Residency Programming (11 months/4 hours per week)

Elective Rotations:

  • Bariatric Clinic (8-10 weeks/8 hours per week)
  • National Ambulatory Care Service Management (8 weeks/16-24 hours per week)
  • Oncology (8 weeks/24 hours per week)
  • Oncology Management (8 weeks/24 hours per week)
  • Specialty (8 weeks/24 hours per week)
  • Community Pharmacy Management/340b (8 weeks/24 hours per week)

** Other rotations may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability **

Staffing Requirement

During the residency year, the resident will staff one Saturday per month at the Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Family Health Center Free Clinic.

Applicant Qualification:

  • Graduates or candidates of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program (or one in process of pursuing accreditation)
  • Applicants are completing or have completed an ASHP accredited or candidate-status PGY1 residency program
  • Applicants must be eligible to obtain a license to practice pharmacy in the State of Wisconsin within 90 days of start date

Stipend:

$ 60,500
