PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program

Residency Purpose

The Ascension All Saints Hospital PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

Residency Mission

Residents completing the program will be competent, confident and compassionate practitioners. They will function as effective members of the health care team with the ultimate goal of providing optimal medication management services for our patients. These pharmacists will possess the knowledge and experience required to be proficient in appropriate medication use. In addition, residents develop and practice effective written and verbal communication skills and become valuable educators of healthcare professionals, patients, students, and the community. Residency graduates will demonstrate time management and independent thinking skills that will make them leaders within their practice settings and within the profession.

All Saints Hospital is a community-based hospital that will give residents a unique experience to further develop their careers as health care practitioners. Residents will be given the opportunity to develop their clinical skills during many diverse required rotations. Throughout the year, the resident will become confident in making pharmaceutical recommendations, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff, as well as advancing their written and verbal communication skills. The residency year at All Saints will prepare the resident to go on and practice as a strong clinical pharmacist in a variety of areas in the medical field.
