Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown
Pharmacy Residency
About Us
The purpose of the Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the education competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
The ASTM PGY1 program is a 52-week, post-graduate training experience composed of discrete core rotations, a variety of elective rotations, and yearlong longitudinal projects including a research project, a formal Journal Club presentation, drug information projects, a CE seminar, and a formal Medication Use Evaluation.
The residency program will provide each resident with specific learning and practice experiences designed to enable the resident to expand the scope of his or her practice skills. These experiences will be varied in nature, but with an overall emphasis on patient care.
Upon completion of the pharmacy practice residency program, the resident should be capable of functioning as a competent pharmacist and be able to transform his or her accumulated experiences and knowledge into new and improved patient care services to ensure pharmaceutical care for the patient.
