Anesthesiology Residency Didactic System
Comprehensive Didactic Schedule
Our Anesthesiology Residency Program offers a robust and structured didactic system designed to ensure residents are well-prepared for the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) examinations and their future careers. Our curriculum includes a variety of educational activities to provide comprehensive training.
CA-1 Didactics
CA-1 didactics take place every 2nd and 4th Thursday, spanning the entire day. These sessions include:
- Problem-Based Learning Discussions (PBLDs): Incorporating Keywords to cover all essential topics necessary for the ABA Basic Board Examination.
- Topic Coverage: Ensuring residents are well-versed in all areas required for the ABA Basic Board Examination.
CA-2 and CA-3 Didactics
CA-2 and CA-3 didactics occur every 1st and 3rd Thursday, also full-day sessions. These include:
- Problem-Based Learning Discussions (PBLDs: Utilizing Keywords for a deeper understanding of complex topics.
- Oral Board Review: Intensive preparation for the oral component of the ABA Advanced Board Examination.
- Comprehensive Topic Coverage: Covering all subjects necessary for the ABA Advanced Board Examination.
Simulation-Based Learning
Didactic sessions often take place in the Simulation Center, where we utilize high-fidelity simulation to enhance learning and solidify presentation content. This hands-on approach ensures residents can apply theoretical knowledge in practical, real-world scenarios.
Additional Education Components
- Guest Lecturers: Experts in various fields of anesthesiology provide specialized knowledge and insights.
- Grand Round Presentations: Regular sessions where residents and faculty discuss recent advancements and case studies in anesthesiology.
- Morbidity and Mortality Conferences: Critical reviews of cases to understand complications and improve patient care.
- Journal Club: Regular meetings where residents critically appraise and discuss recent journal articles to stay current with the latest research and evidence-based practices.
