International Family Medicine Fellowship (IFMF)

Our Vision

In 2006, a group of pioneer Via Christi Family Medicine residents had a vision for serving overseas together after graduating. Recognizing that the developing world presents unique clinical challenges, they began dreaming about what sort of training would best equip them. Dr. Todd Stephens, after practicing for years in Kenya and post-genocide Rwanda, joined Via Christi Family Medicine faculty and helped to realize a one-year fellowship curriculum with this precise goal in mind.

The Via Christi International Family Medicine Fellowship was developed to equip family physicians with a unique knowledge base and clinical skills necessary to effectively serve the poorest and most underserved people of the world. We provide training in order to mobilize competent family physicians who will go and transform the lives and health of the nations. We have been sending fellows and graduates around the globe since 2008.  We strive to continually improve our fellowship training and experiences based on global health needs and our fellows’ goals and interests.
