Program Goals & Objectives

Ascension St. Vincent's Radiography Program strives to produce highly skilled and trained entry-level radiographers to serve the medical community and radiography field. Upon graduation from the Ascension St. Vincent's Radiologic Technology Program, the student will be able to perform the following Goals and Objectives.

Goal: Students will be able to communicate effectively with the healthcare team.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Students will demonstrate oral communication skills.
  2. Students will demonstrate written communication skills.
  3. Graduates communicate effectively in the medical environment.

Goal: Students will be able to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Students will exercise independent judgment.
  2. Students will recognize patient emergency conditions.
  3. Students assess the patient, patient requisition, patient's images, radiation need, and image quality.

Goal: Students will develop clinical competency and provide safe, high-quality radiographs and patient care

Learning Objectives:

  1. Student maintains a clinical competency average of 85% or higher.
  2. Students apply proper radiation protection principles for the patient, self, and others.
  3. Students administer proper age-appropriate procedure techniques and proper patient care.
  4. Graduates are clinically competent and able to successfully demonstrate and apply accurate positioning skills.
  5. Employers indicate graduate competency skills.

Goal: Students/Graduates recognize the need for a high standard of professional values and life-long learning, and apply professional ethics and characteristics to their work and healthcare practices.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Students demonstrate the application of ethics and professionalism
  2. Students participate in professional development activities and continuing education

Goal: Provide the medical center and community with competent radiographers

Learning Objectives:

  1. Graduate employed in radiologic imaging within 6 months of graduation
  2. Employers indicate satisfaction with graduates' skills
  3. Graduates indicate satisfaction with their radiography education
  4. Students enrolled maintained 80% or higher in all didactic education and 85% or higher in all clinical education
  5. At least 75% of enrolled students complete and graduate from the Ascension St. Vincent's Radiography Program
  6. Graduates pass The American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) Examination after the Program.
