Meet the Faculty

Himabindu Yarlagadda, MD – Associate Program Director

Dr. Yarlagadda moved to the US after finishing medical school at Siddhartha Medical College in India. After finishing her residency at Hurley Medical Center, she joined Ascension Genesys as a hospitalist in 2005. She joined the Internal Medicine Residency family in 2015.  She is passionate about creating a well-rounded educational experience for the residents with the goal of producing respected members of the medical profession who meet high standards. She lives in Grand Blanc and enjoys spending time with her husband and two teenagers.

Nathan Kopek, DO – Core Faculty

Dr. Kopek is a lifelong Michigan resident who graduated from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004. He joined Ascension Genesys as Faculty in 2007 after completing post graduate training here in Internal Medicine. He stays busy trying to keep up with two active daughters.  His personal hobbies include: home handyman work, auto repair, and learning and reading about history. He enjoys the outdoors. His clinical areas of interest include: autoimmune disorders, infectious disease, and diabetes. He is particularly proud of our outstanding residents and has enjoyed watching them achieve their life long goals as they grow to become dedicated colleagues who make a difference in the lives of so many people.

Reginald "Torey" Sandy, DO - Core Faculty

Dr. Torey Sandy was born in Southfield, MI but was raised in Vincennes, Indiana.  He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in biomedical engineering and went to medical school at Lincoln Memorial University - DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, TN.  He trained here at Ascension Genesys Hospital for Internal Medicine.  Right after finishing his residency training, he worked as a locum tenens hospitalist and nocturnist before starting as Internal Medicine faculty.  He is a computer geek of sorts and enjoys any brain-teasers, board games, and computer/video games.  He also play tennis (and used to coach high school tennis) and pickleball in his spare time!

Lauren Finn Yoo, DO - Core Faculty

Dr. Yoo was born and raised in the beautiful Lakes Region of New Hampshire (which also makes her lucky enough to be a Boston sports fan)!  She went to Williams College and majored in Art History before changing gears and deciding to become a physician.  She studied medicine at Pacific Northwest University and trained (as a co-resident with her husband!) at Genesys. She has a passion for outpatient, primary care medicine and was thrilled to join the IM faculty after her residency graduation in 2019. When she's not talking about medicine, you will see her showing off photos and videos of her 2 little boys to anyone who will look!  She also loves exploring this new state she now calls home, losing at board games, re-watching classic Disney movies with her boys, and binging audiobooks.

Heather Kirkpatrick, PhD - Director of Behavioral Health for IM

Dr. Kirkpatrick is a faculty member within the departments of Psychology and Internal Medicine at Genesys. Her time is spent between working with psychology fellows in our Clinical Health Psychology postdoctoral fellowship program and working with our Internal Medicine residents in their ambulatory office experience at the Downtown Flint Health Center. Dr. Kirkpatrick also teaches and coordinates the psychopharmacology course for both the Ascension Genesys fellowship, as well as the Michigan Consortium for Advanced Psychology Training fellowship. Dr. Kirkpatrick is a fully licensed psychologist in the State of Michigan, having earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at University of Illinois in 1998. She is board certified in Clinical Health Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology.  In 2010, she completed a post-doctoral masters degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology at Farleigh Dickinson University. Dr. Kirkpatrick's professional and research interests involve integrated primary care, psychopharmacology, medical education techniques, bioethics, and physician wellness. She regularly speaks on these topics at conferences and enjoys collaborating with fellows in presentations and publications. She is active with the Ascension Genesys Ethics committee, having served as it’s chair for many years.  She enjoys reading YA fiction, baking, instrumental and vocal music, and traveling. She and her family are avid board gamers and have more board games than we could possibly play in a weekend.
