Curriculum

Clinical Rotations

Fellows will maintain their own continuity clinics which will meet at least one half day per week.

1st Year:

  • 4 months of Hospital Consult Services
  • 4 months of Ambulatory Clinic
  • 1 month of Radiation Oncology
  • 2 months at Karmanos Cancer Institute
  • 1 month of Path/Blood Banking

2nd Year:

  • 4 months of Hospital Consult Services
  • 4 months of Ambulatory Clinic
  • 2 months at Karmanos Cancer Institute
  • 1 month of Hospice/Palliative Care
  • 1 month of Research

3rd  Year:

  • 4 months of Hospital Consults
  • 4 months of Ambulatory Clinic
  • 2 months at Karmanos Cancer Institute
  • 1 month of Research
  • 1 month of Surgical Oncology/Breast Surgery

Ambulatory Setting

The Ambulatory Clinic Setting is in a 52,000 sq. ft. free standing Cancer Institute. The Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute is a joint venture between the Ascension Genesys Hospital and Hurley Medical Center and is located in Flint, Michigan. It contains both Radiation Oncology services and Medical Oncology services, as well as a Blood Disease Treatment Center. The Cancer Institute is divided into the practices of Drs. Kipke, Szyarto, Katato, and Adams, the practice of Dr. Danish and the practice of Drs. Kocheril and Shah. The second floor contains space for both the clinic and chemotherapy infusion. It was designed to include 15 exam rooms for patient visits and 24 chemotherapy infusion stations. The Cancer Institute also includes a full service Chemotherapy Pharmacy with ventilated hoods for the mixing of chemotherapy. The Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute in located on a 5 acre site on the east side of Flint, and is surrounded by the campus of Mott Community College.

The program will follow the guidelines for residency training in accordance with the requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
