How to Observe

A clinical observation (or shadowing experience) is an excellent opportunity to meet program faculty, learn more about the Sonography Program, and explore the profession firsthand. Applicants can observe the day-to-day responsibilities of professional sonographers and gain insight into their role within the health care team. During your visit, you'll have the opportunity to interact with current students and hear about their experiences in the program.

Observations are conducted at Ascension St. Vincent's sonography department. Completion of an observation is strongly encouraged but is not required for admission.

To request a clinical observation at Ascension St. Vincent's, please complete the Observation Request Form. Please allow a minimum of one week for your request to be reviewed and processed. Once your request has been approved, a member of the program faculty will contact you to schedule your observation.

Observation requests and appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, and availability may be limited.

Observations are offered mid-January through June and typically last 2–3 hours.

Applicants must have 3 professional references complete and submit the reference form.

References may be submitted from April 1st to June 30th

All references will be reviewed, evaluated, and assigned a score. The combined reference scores will be incorporated into the applicant’s comprehensive application score. Additional details regarding application scoring can be found under the Applicant Selection Process tab.

Program Reference Forms

Foreign Educated Applicants

Applicants educated in foreign countries are welcomed to apply to the program. However, candidates must have completed all of the programs general education requirements through regionally accredited American colleges and universities. No foreign academic work will be considered toward the general education requirements. Foreign transcripts or the equivalent domestic evaluation of foreign transcripts (ECE for example) are not required.
