Corporate Opportunity

Ascension is a Catholic healthcare organization dedicated to the transformation of healthcare through innovation. We specialize in implementation of evidence-based clinical initiatives, algorithms for care and the introduction of an integrated system-wide surveillance program to prevent patient harm. Ascension is a system of subsidiaries that collaborate to foster evidence-based practices supporting healthcare that works, healthcare that is safe and healthcare that leaves no one behind. Ascension, the nation’s largest Catholic and nonprofit health system, is supported by our own Group Purchasing Organization, a recognized Patient Safety Organization and driven by compassion and dedication to care for those most in need at more than 18,000 acute care patient beds in nearly 140 sites.

Ascension is unique in its health-system members, who range from critical access hospitals to large academic tertiary care institutions. The PGY2 resident will be immersed in an extensive, highly regarded and professionally diverse network of connections. The resident will collaborate to develop consensus among a diverse group of colleagues, facilitating implementation of clinical initiatives and programs, as well as measuring outcomes following implementation.

Our one-of-a-kind, Pharmacy Resident Program is designed to mold the management-focused resident into an elite, highly competitive candidate for a position in health system administration. The PGY2 resident will be working virtually with the dynamic leadership team.

The resident will train extensively in the foundational aspects of contemporary, corporate health-system administration so that she or he may emerge an elite and highly competitive candidate for a post-resident leadership position in the profession. Areas include: clinical and operational pharmacy administration, system-wide budgeting, formulary considerations and cost-efficacy dynamics, system-wide implementation of guidelines and directives, informatics, and executive leadership. This residency necessarily entails tapping into an extensive group of connections, affording the opportunity not only to freely exchange ideas and best practices for the benefit of Ascension during the residency, but also to network with a range of contacts in a manner that may benefit the resident's post-training career pursuits.
