Program Description and Purpose Statement

Ascension Seton is a 12 hospital network in Austin, Texas and surrounding area. The primary hospital for the residency is at Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas (an academic institution with a Level 1 trauma center). Residents also have the opportunity to complete rotations at four of our community hospitals and Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas (an academic pediatric hospital).

There is an additional focus on the clinical application of antimicrobial PK/PD. The resident will gain experience in PK monitoring, antimicrobial drug utilization, precepting, rounding with an inpatient team, as well as restrictive and non-restrictive formulary models. Experiences in the following settings include: academic, community, pediatrics, and outpatient clinics.

At the completion of the residency, the resident will be prepared for a position as a Clinical Specialist in an inpatient setting and able to implement an antimicrobial stewardship program within a hospital site or healthcare system in a community or academic setting.
