Curriculum & Didactics

Curriculum/Rotations

Typical rotations are 5 weeks in length and take place at various sites throughout the Ascension St. Vincent campus.

Global Health

The program offers 3 different Global Health Opportunities. Residents may attend based on their schedule

  • Honduras - Surgical
  • Honduras - Primary Care Procedures
  • India - Global Health Observership

Residents can use GME funds for 2 Global Health trips throughout their residency.

Didactics

Typical months include daily formal board changeover with various teaching faculty, Wednesday Didactics from 7 a.m.-8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. , as well as monthly OB M&M, GYN M&M, Grand Rounds with visiting speakers, enrichment sessions including simulation sessions (at our Ascension St. Vincent William K. Nasser Simulation Center: a 45,000 square foot state of the art facility built for Education), pathology conferences as well as joint OB & Neonatal conference.

Sim Center

Residents participate in various cadaver labs at the SIM center as well.

Call Schedules:

Because we have a night float rotation, residents no longer take call during the week (those hours are covered by the two residents on the night float rotation). Per ACGME duty hours requirements, all residents take 24-hour calls in an effort to maintain continuity of patient care.

On average, residents take 1-2 weekend call shifts per month.
