Cardiovascular Technology
This 18 month program specializes in the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) career. A RCIS Technologist performs invasive diagnostic examinations and therapeutic interventions of the heart and/or blood vessels at the request or direction of a physician in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. RCIS technologists are constantly learning new procedures with ever evolving technology. A RCIS technologist is a highly-skilled professional who is specifically focused on the diagnosis and treatment of patient with cardiac and vascular disease. The technologist is proficient in the use of analytical equipment, placing equipment on or into a patient, placing the patient onto equipment, acquisition of diagnostic images, data measurement, professionalism, and knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy and pathophysiology. A RCIS technologist should possess skills such as compassion, empathy, competence, and concern for patients.
The professional responsibilities of a registered cardiovascular invasive specialist include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing and/or recording pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data
- Performing appropriate clinical procedures
- Obtaining a record of anatomical, pathological, and physiological data
- Participating in interventional cardiac catheterizations
