Jennifer Mundell, MD FACP

Program Director, Transitional Year Residency
Associate Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency

Dr. Mundell completed her undergraduate studies at Purdue University, where she triple-majored in biochemistry, cell and developmental biology, and molecular biology and triple-minored in forensic science, mathematics, and psychology. Before pursuing a career in medicine, she worked in the research and development department at BioConvergence in Bloomington, Indiana, conducting characterization experiments on generic parenteral medications undergoing Phase 1 clinical trials.

Seeking a more direct role in patient care, she enrolled at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She initially aspired to become a forensic medical examiner but ultimately discovered her passion for internal medicine and graduated in 2013. She completed her residency at Ascension St. Vincent in 2016 and secured her dream role teaching and mentoring residents on inpatient medicine services. Her dedication has been recognized by hospital leadership, who named her the first physician “Employee of the Month,” by patients through numerous “Caring Angel” awards, and by both internal medicine and transitional year residents, who have honored her with multiple “Teacher of the Year” awards. In her role as Program Director, Dr. Mundell is excited to apply the same energy and commitment she brings to patient care and teaching to further strengthen the program and enrich the resident experience.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Mundell enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, fishing for smallmouth bass at Lake James or Brookville Lake (a hobby she picked up during the COVID pandemic), reading medical history books like Five Days at Memorial and The American Plague, and finding inspiration in baking shows such as Holiday Baking Championship and The Great British Bake Off.

Program Faculty

Our faculty aren’t just assigned to teach — they apply for teaching positions because they have a true passion for education. You’re learning from attendings who genuinely want to be there and are approachable, making it comfortable to ask questions and collaborate. Many are recognized regionally and nationally for their scholarly activity, passions for particular skills like wound care and ultrasound, and are highly supportive of our residents’ education and well-being.

Our residents view their work as an invaluable opportunity to learn and directly impact patients’ lives. The dynamic among residents is collaborative and supportive—interns help one another whenever possible and benefit greatly from the guidance and encouragement of senior residents. You are surrounded by peers who are all striving to become the best physicians they can be. Going to the variety of didactics is a chance to connect with friends and colleagues in a welcoming and motivating environment for learning

They will be continuing their advanced training at: Advent Health University - Florida, Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Duke University, Indiana University, Marianjoy Rehab Hospital and Penn State University.
