- Self-Care Half-Day - 2nd Wednesday of elective months to support resident well-being. Residents know these dates in advance and can schedule doctor/dental appointments or tend to other needs accordingly.
- Early Start Option - half of the class will begin ~June 1 and finish ~May 31 of the following year.
- Clinician Educator Track - optional certificate track for residents intending to enter into academic careers; offers special teaching opportunities and instruction.
- POCUS Track - point of care Ultrasound (POCUS) is becoming more and more common in medicine - no matter what your future field may be. Our track helps you begin gaining exposure and familiarity with all elements of POCUS and even has areas of focus specific to your advanced field.
- Medical Spanish Program - designed to learn medical Spanish terminology in order to complete a medical encounter in Spanish effectively and efficiently.
- Exposure to Advanced Heart Failure Patients - St. Vincent Heart Center is #1 in the state for number of heart transplants, and specializes in advanced heart failure and LVADs
- Unopposed Experience in the ICU - with close mentoring by ICU faculty and fellows, allowing for significant procedural experience including intubations, central lines, arterial lines and directing ACLS
- Night Float System - to reduce resident burnout and ensure adequate work-life balance
- Optional Curriculums - including education on LGBTQ+ Health and Addiction Medicine.
- Academic Half-Days – Designed specifically to meet the needs of the Transitional Year intern, with activities that are focused in simulation, research, and finance education, just to name a few.
- Integrated Residency Programs - our program is closely integrated with all of the residencies at Ascension St. Vincent, especially Internal Medicine. Transitional Year interns are treated just like one of the family!
- People - we are a family-friendly program that places an emphasis on work-life balance. We try to maintain diversity of our residents and staff to reflect the diversity of the community we serve. We act as mentors for each other and receive mentorship from our faculty and supervisors.
