About the Program

Ascension St. Vincent Transitional Year residency is an ACGME-accredited educationally intensive, one-year program that prepares graduates for subsequent training in a variety of medical and surgical specialties. Through a solid core of required rotations and a broad array of elective options, residents can tailor their education to meet individual career goals. Education is a priority at Ascension St. Vincent, and we strive to teach our residents cost-effective quality care for their patients through evidence-based medicine.

 

Mission Statement

The St. Vincent Transitional Year Residency Program, rooted in the Ascension Core Values, aims to provide twelve months of foundational clinical skills for residents who have matched or are planning to match into specialty training. The program emphasizes professional formation through the practice of team-based care, educational innovation, scholarly activity, quality and safety training, and attention to personal well-being.  The program strives to provide a supportive learning environment that fosters creativity, promotes empathy and respect for all humans, and emphasizes the practice of high-quality evidence-based medicine. Our program is represented by people of integrity and whose diverse backgrounds help to develop strong physicians who will undoubtedly serve the needs of our community.

Training and Education

  • Balanced program size, allowing for optimization of dedicated education time while still allowing for a breadth of diverse patient encounters
  • Emphasis on dedicated learning time
  • Quarterly opportunities for TY-specific Academic Half-Days which include simulation/skills experiences as well as rotating lectures on professionalism, wellbeing, personal finance, quality & safety etc.

  • Dedicated educational time while on Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, and Cardiology rotations
