The Ascension Providence Hospital School of Radiologic Technology prepares the student for examination and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The 24-month course includes both classroom study and competency-based clinical education.  The 40-hour school week consists of a daily three-hour class covering topics such as radiologic physics, anatomy and physiology, standard radiographic positions, techniques and departmental procedures.  The remainder of each eight-hour day is devoted to performing clinical duties under the supervision of a registered radiologic technologist.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide each student with an education that will enhance their minds.  Through constant goal setting and achievement, the students are given the opportunity to challenge themselves towards excellence in patient care within the radiological sciences.

Admission

Up to 12 students per year; Criterion for acceptance is based on a combined score for both academics and interview. Our Admission's Policy is available here.

Application

Applicants are required to submit the following, to the Radiography Program by February 1, along with their application for consideration:

  • Three (3) current letters of professional reference.
  • Official High School transcripts.
  • Official College transcripts that demonstrate completion of:
    • Algebra (Intermediate; not pre-, basic, or elementary)—3 credit hours
    • English (Communications/ Composition) - 3 credit hours
    • Behavioral Science (Psychology, sociology, etc.) —3 credit hours
    • Anatomy and Physiology 3 c.h. (additional coursework in the Natural Science earns more points)
    • Information Sciences (Introduction to Computers) —3 credit hours
    • Medical Terminology- 1-3 credit hours 
      Documentation of 4 hours of job shadowing or job experience is recommended.  
  • A $40 Application fee. (Check or money order payable to "Ascension Providence Hospital").

Tuition

Tuition will be increasing to $7,000 for 2023 admission. All school fees are included in the tuition except for textbooks. There are no refunds offered on any tuition paid. Payment schedule for admitted students for 2023 is here

Enrollment

All students do not rotate to all locations; we have an east-side/west-side option. See application letter.


Academic Community Agreements

The Ascension Providence Hospital School of Radiologic Technology maintains articulation agreements with Macomb County Community College, Wayne County Community College, and Concordia University-Ann Arbor. This is to assist prospective students to be academically prepared, and to provide a pathway for degree achievement. Accreditation

Our current accreditation award is for 8 years; which was granted in March of 2018. Our interim report was accepted, so our next accreditation review date is March 2026. 

Ascension Providence Hospital School of Radiologic Technology is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in the Radiological Sciences. Program Effectiveness Data

Our program is required by the Joint Review Commission on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) to publish data on program completion rate, first time pass rate on the National Registry, and job placement rate. The information can be located here for 2023 .


CT, Interventional Radiology (IR), Mammography & MRI Training

Ascension Providence Hospital also has CT, IR & MRI training available to Registered Radiographers. We offer a 6 month CT program, a 7 month MRI program, and a 6-9 month IR training program. Applicants must be a Registered Radiographer to apply. All applicants must submit a current MRI screening form as part of the application packet which can be located here.
