Curriculum

Our program's five-year curriculum will expose general surgery residents to a broad range of inpatient and outpatient surgical experiences throughout their time at Ascension St. Vincent. The first year focuses on the basics of pre- and post-operative care of the surgical patient with some exposure to cases. The second and third years develop decision-making skills regarding intraoperative and perioperative care of the surgical patient. The fourth year emphasizes increased responsibility and education in the care of patients in thoracic, vascular, transplant and surgical oncology services. The fifth year prepares the chief surgical resident for the comprehensive care of surgical patients and the independent practice of surgery.
