Areas of Concentration
What is an Area of Concentration (AOC) ?
According to the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors, an AOC is "a framework to allow residents to pursue some differentiation in their training beyond the core, yet not to the level of a yearlong fellowship. One might consider these similar to a "minor" in college. The AOC's are individualized to the needs of the resident and his/her future community and practice." AOCs are not required; some residents pursue one, and a few fulfill requirements for two.
