Who We Are

Established in 1970, St. Vincent Family Medicine is one of the first fully accredited family medicine residencies in the nation. Our residents have a long history of serving the central Indiana community

With a comprehensive academic tradition and the family-centered emphasis of a community hospital, Ascension St. Vincent is a unique and exciting place to practice and learn medicine. Our residents enjoy collegial teaching collaboration with other Ascension St. Vincent residencies and fellowships (Cardiology, Advanced Heart Failure, Electrophysiology, General Surgery, Geriatrics, OB/GYN, IM, Peds, Podiatry, Preliminary, Transitional Year).

Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis is a full-service, nationally recognized tertiary care hospital with a Level I trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, transplant center, and burn center. We provide all of the resources to hone and develop our residents' capacity to provide exceptional full-spectrum primary, urgent, acute care services, and obstetric care in a broad array of settings. Our residents have a 100% ABFM First-Time Pass Rate and are offered the best opportunity for a sustained career of learning and leadership.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We are committed to help create healthy communities in central Indiana and to provide compassionate care and advocacy for all who are in need. At the Joshua Max Simon Primary Care Center, our residents address the many social determinants of health care affecting our vulnerable populations. In doing so, we advocate on behalf of our patients' complex mental health and psychosocial needs, limited access to health services and healthy food choices.

We care for a diverse patient population and see patients of different ages, races and ethnicities, abilities and disabilities, genders, religions, cultures and sexual orientations.

Our abundant Latinx population provides residents with the opportunity to improve Spanish fluency. Likewise, our well- resourced clinic has excellent in-person interpreting services available for Spanish and other languages. The Global Health Elective allows the opportunity for yearly trips (previously to the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Honduras)

Teaching Opportunities and Leadership Development

Opportunity to teach 3rd and 4th year medical students in clinic and in the hospital

Residents in 2nd and 3rd year lead teams with Family Medicine, Transitional Year and Podiatry interns

Leadership Development

Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis is a Tertiary referral hospital providing a great variety of pathology
Level 1 Trauma Center
Peyton Manning Children's Hospital referral center for the state of Indiana
St. Vincent Women's Hospital has a large volume of routine and high risk obstetric care and the largest Level 4 NICU in Indiana

Elective Rotations

We offer one month Family Medicine electives July through December in Family Medicine clinic or on our inpatient service. Interested students should contact Tyler Fletcher at tyler.fletcher@ascension.org.

Observerships
We do not provide observerships before the match. If you match in one of our programs, there is a possibility of an observership or externship after the match and before residency in order to assist you with orientation to our hospital.
