Program Structure 

Students are on-site for clinicals or classes 5 days (Monday through Friday) during the 18-month program. During the first summer semester of the program students attend clinical observation on Mondays and Wednesdays following the first two weeks of the program.  Students will attend class on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during the first summer semester.  In the fall and spring, junior students attend classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Clinical days for junior year students are Tuesdays and Thursdays for the fall and spring semesters. Senior (second-year) students attend classes on Tuesday and Thursdays. Clinical days for senior year students are Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Clinical days during the summer (semester IV) term will be Monday through Friday.

Class hours are typically from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm with breaks and lunch but the exact schedule may vary depending on the course. Clinical hours are typically 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Some clinical sites have earlier clinical hours, which are specified in the handbook and course syllabi. 

 Breaks & Holidays

Breaks are scheduled between semesters. Additionally, students have personal time off (PTO) to be used for personal reasons.  The Ascension St. Vincent Cardiac Sonography Program honors the following hospital recognized holidays. Students are not assigned to clinical or classes on these holidays.
