PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

 PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is a one-year training program offering a broad range of pharmacy practice experiences. The program is conducted at Ascension Via Christi Hospitals in Wichita, Kansas, which are acute care, teaching hospitals. The program offers positions for up to four residents annually.

The PGY1 program provides experience in a variety of settings, focusing on the core areas of practice specified in the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacy Accreditation Standards, including patient care, practice management and research. The program is administered by highly trained and respected clinical practitioners who are allotted dedicated time in their area of practice to provide state-of-the-art training and mentoring for the programs’ residents. This allows flexibility for the resident to focus on special areas of interest.

Upon completion of the program, the clinical pharmacist will be ready to apply their skills in direct patient care, exhibit excellent decision-making skills, and provide education and leadership in the care of patients.

Residents will participate in a teaching certificate program conducted by the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. Through this program residents will be introduced to various teaching concepts including teaching philosophy, effective teaching tools, and student learning styles. Residents will also be mentored through the development and delivery of lectures and other presentations.
