Advocacy

We have created a robust and comprehensive Advocacy Curriculum to be completed over the 3 years of training:

  • Didactic curriculum ranging from mental health to sexuality to immigration to health care finance.

  • Required Community Health and Advocacy rotation during which  our residents are able to visit and learn about local organizations that provide services to our patients.

  • Outreach opportunities through Ascension St Vincent such as the Medical Mission at Home where residents can go out into the community and work with our patients outside of the hospital.

  • Residents are  encouraged to do QI and research projects to find ways to better care for our most vulnerable patients.  A recent graduate focused on gun safety and got grant funding to dispense gun safes to our families.

  • Our clinic patients are a very underserved population from all over the world. Residents learn hands-on advocacy helping them navigate the health care system.

  • Pediatric residents can serve on the INAAP as resident delegates, learning more about efforts going on at the State level and educating our residents on new bills and advocacy opportunities.

  • Our location in the capital allows us to be involved in advocacy efforts at a state level.
