Poonam Thaker, MD

Poonam Thaker, MD, is board-certified in family medicine and has her Certificate of Added Qualification in Primary Care Sports Medicine. She earned a bachelor's degree in Biology from Cornell University and her medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University/The Chicago Medical School in North Chicago.

She completed her family medicine residency at Ascension Resurrection, where she served as chief resident, and conducted her sports medicine fellowship training at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She has been the director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship and faculty member of the Family Medicine Residency at Ascension Resurrection since 2009.

Dr. Thaker is currently the head team physician for North Park University and medical director of their athletic training program. She is also a team physician for Ridgewood High School, St. Patrick High School, and Resurrection High School.

Dr. Thaker has been a volunteer physician for numerous area events, including the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, and Tough Mudder. She was a volunteer physician in Kona, Hawaii at the 2005 Ironman World Championship triathlon. She has served as medical director for the Men’s Health Chicago Urbanathlon, BikeMS Tour de Farms, CARA Ready to Run and CARA Lakefront 10 Miler. She also serves on the medical committee for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and Shamrock Shuffle.

Dr. Thaker is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, Wilderness Medicine Society and the American College of Sports Medicine. She has presented at the Annual Meetings of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine and the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Health Association. She continues to conduct research in sports medicine and is involved with the community. When she is not taking care of athletes, she enjoys playing soccer, biking and snowboarding.

Brian Donohue, DO

Program Director, Family Medicine Residency
Associate Director, Sports Medicine Fellowship

Dr. Donohue is an alumnus of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his family medicine residency and sports medicine fellowship at Ascension Resurrection. Dr. Donohue is board-certified in family medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in primary care sports medicine.

Dr. Donohue has presented at the American College of Sports Medicine’s national conference as well as multiple local conferences. He currently provides medical coverage for collegiate and high school athletics, as well as large mass events such as the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Shamrock Shuffle and the Men’s Health Chicago Urbanathlon. In addition, Dr. Donohue enjoys endurance and high-altitude medicine. His personal interests include running, biking, and skiing.

Michael Ladewski, DO, FAAFP

Associate Director, Sports Medicine Fellowship

Dr. Ladewski is a graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his family medicine residency at Ascension Resurrection, where he served as chief resident in 2008. He went on to complete the Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2009. He is board-certified in family medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in primary care sports medicine.

Dr. Ladewski has covered various Chicagoland high school sporting events, athletic training rooms and numerous local endurance events, including the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. He has contributed to 5 Minute Sports Medicine Consult and has presented at the American College of Sports Medicine national conference and multiple local conferences. Dr. Ladewski is a member of the Chicago Area Runners Association medical committee. His personal interests include running, triathlon and playing sports with his young children.

Christopher Mahr, MD

Orthopedic & Sports Medicine

Dr. Mahr completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Illinois and then went on to do an arthroplasty and sports medicine fellowship in Australia. An avid runner and tennis player, he is a team physician for Maine South High School and serves as one of our orthopedic continuity faculty.

Brian McCall, MD

Orthopedic & Sports Medicine

Dr. McCall completed his orthopedic residency at Georgetown University and completed a sports medicine fellowship under the direction of world-renowned orthopedic surgeon James Andrews in Alabama. He serves as a team physician for Maine South High School and is one of our orthopedic continuity faculty.

David Garelick, MD

Orthopedic & Sports Medicine

Dr. Garelick completed his orthopedic residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and his sports medicine fellowship at the University of California at San Diego. He serves as a team physician for St. Patrick High School and, in addition to being one of our orthopedic continuity faculty, is a faculty member of the University of Illinois at Chicago Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship program.
