Program Description

Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola is a full-service 560-bed hospital with 24/7 emergency care. The Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola emergency departments provide care for life-threatening injuries and illnesses throughout the Pensacola area including the 43-bed main emergency department, 7-bed obstetric emergency department, and 21-bed pediatric emergency department at the main hospital in Pensacola, FL and two freestanding emergency departments (Pensacola and Navarre, FL) each with 18 beds. The main emergency department is recognized as a Level II Trauma Center, a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, and a nationally certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. The Emergency Department averages over 61,000 visits per year. Patient acuity in the ED is high, as demonstrated by an admission rate of 31% - including critical care admission rate of 2%.

Preceptors

Alyssa Weideling, PharmD, BCPS, BCEMP

PGY2 Emergency Medicine Program Director/Emergency Medicine Preceptor

Alyssa is a graduate of Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University. Following graduation, she completed her PGY1 residency at University Health Shreveport in Louisiana. She joined Ascension Sacred Heart in 2017, and she serves as a clinical staff pharmacist in the ED and as the Residency Program Director of the PGY2 Emergency Medicine program. She also serves as a primary preceptor for the PGY1 Emergency Medicine elective learning experience and a primary preceptor and mentor for resident research projects. Her clinical responsibilities include working closely with the multidisciplinary ED team to care for critical and non-critical patients to manage a variety of disease states encountered in the ED. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys traveling with her husband, hiking, kayaking, and attending sporting events and concerts.

Dwight Burnham, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP

Emergency Medicine Preceptor

Dwight Burnham, PharmD, BCPS is originally from Brewton, Alabama and is a graduate of Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy. He completed a PGY-1 residency at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he developed his clinical interests in emergency medicine and critical care. He joined the pharmacy staff here at Sacred Heart in 2021 and is a clinical pharmacist in the emergency department. His primary clinical responsibilities include coverage of the emergency department during the evenings where he works with the multidisciplinary ED team and assists with medication needs during medical emergencies. His clinical interests include toxicology, trauma, and ACLS. Outside of work Dwight enjoys going to the beach, exploring the local restaurants, and cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide (Roll Tide!)

Alexandra Wilson, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP

Emergency Medicine Preceptor

Alexandra completed her PharmD at the Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University. Following graduation, she completed her PGY-1 residency here, at Ascension Sacred Heart, and she stayed on as a staff clinical pharmacist. Now, she serves as a clinical pharmacist in the emergency department (ED). She is a preceptor for the PGY-1 emergency medicine elective and PGY-2 emergency medicine program as well as serving as a mentor for residents and research projects. She works with the ED team to care for critical and non-critical patients to manage a variety of disease states encountered in the ED. Outside of her pharmacy career, Alexandra enjoys yoga, traveling to different places, going to the beach, reading, and playing with her dog, Winston.

Alexandria N. Boot, PharmD

Emergency Medicine Preceptor in Training

Alex is originally from Laurel, Mississippi. She completed her PharmD at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Following graduation, she completed her PGY1 and PGY2 Pharmacy Residencies at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola where she stayed on as a clinical pharmacist in the emergency department (ED). Alex plans to become board certified in Emergency Medicine Pharmacy. Outside of her pharmacy career, she loves attending concerts, traveling/hiking, and going to football and baseball games! She also is a photographer on the side.

Jonathan Gray, PharmD, BCCCP

Critical Care Preceptor

 

Jonathan is an Alabama native and graduated with his PharmD from Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy. He completed his PGY-1 residency with a focus on critical care at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL and then began his career in the medical intensive care unit at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, AL. He joined the Sacred Heart Hospital team in 2021 as one of the critical care pharmacists where he serves as a preceptor for the PGY1 Critical care Rotation and is the primary preceptor for the PGY2 Emergency Medicine Critical Care Rotation. Outside of work he enjoys traveling and dragging his friends around town on his mission to find the best Mexican restaurant in the area.

Matthew Ruland, PharmD

Pediatric Emergency Medicine Preceptor

Matthew is a graduate of the University of Florida's College of Pharmacy. Matthew completed his PGY1 Pediatric residency at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville Florida after graduation. He joined Ascension Sacred Heart in 2019 and has served as a clinical pharmacist in various roles including PICU, NICU, Med/Surg, and operations before starting a new pediatric pharmacist practice in the pediatric ED in 2023. Clinical responsibilities that Matthew fulfills include working closely with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal outcomes, participating in emergency situations and procedures, managing outpatient cultures/callbacks. and establishing policies and practices to improve overall care. He also serves as the PGY-1 pediatric preceptor for research, the pediatric EM preceptor for PGY-1 in pediatrics and PGY-2 in Emergency Medicine, and precepts longitudinal infectious disease for the PGY-1 pediatric resident. He also sits on the antimicrobial stewardship committee as the pediatric pharmacy representative and as a member of the shared governance committee. Matthew's interests outside of work include spending time with his wife/family, snorkeling and swimming with tropical fish and reefs and anything geek-related such as Dungeons and Dragons and PC gaming.

Hailee Gallaway, PharmD, MBA
Current Resident
Hailee is a graduate of Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy. Following graduation, she completed her PGY1 residency at Ascension Sacred Heart, and she stayed on and is currently the PGY2 emergency medicine pharmacy resident. Her current clinical interests within the ED include infectious diseases, trauma, and ACLS. Outside of residency Hailee enjoys reading, watching Marvel movies, being outdoors, and spending time with her husband and german shepherd.
