Ascension St. Vincent
Family Medicine Residency

Why Choose St. Vincent Family Medicine?

St. Vincent has been training Family physicians since family medicine became a specialty in early 1970, making it one of the first family medicine residencies in the nation.

It is a unique and exciting place to train and practice medicine. We have all the resources and academics of a university medical center with the feel of a community hospital.

Come and check us out with a month long Family Medicine elective rotation. We love having 4th year medical students rotate in our Family Medicine clinic. See the elective rotations tab below for more information.

Diverse Patient Population

  • Care for a vulnerable population. A significant portion of our ambulatory population is without insurance but is able to receive discounted clinical services, testing and medications, allowing residents to provide high quality low-cost care to those in need.

  • New patients every day including patients immigrating to the United States.  Caring for people from other parts of the world provides residents with exposure to many different cultures and can involve treating conditions that are not commonly seen in the United States.

  • Large Hispanic population providing the opportunity for physicians to improve their Spanish fluency.
    • Excellent in-person interpreting services available as well for Spanish and other languages.
  • Global Health Elective with yearly trips
    • Previous trips to Dominican Republic and Guatemala.
  • Full spectrum rural Family Medicine experience available during community medicine rotation
