    Future Goals: I’m leaning towards pursuing fellowship training, but I’m not certain on a specialty. I’ve always enjoyed cardiology, but I want to keep an open mind as I experience more specialties during residency. 

    Interesting Fact: On my first day of third grade, I fell off of a jungle gym and broke my sternum. It’s the only bone I’ve ever broken!

    Why I chose ASVIM: I enjoyed my rotations at St. Vincent during medical school, and my wife and I wanted to stay local for residency. We were thrilled that I was able to match into a program that would help me become an excellent physician, all while being in a place where we could grow as a family.

    Why did you choose ASVIM: I chose STVIM because I wanted a program that was close to home, had a heavy emphasis on education through learning from patients and lectures, and valued work-life balance for its residents.

    Future Goals: Undecided. Most likely to specialize. 

    Interesting Fact: I lived in the Southwest for 4 years and have hiked all over New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. While also trying every cuisine I can get my hands on!

    Why did you choose ASVIM: I knew SVT was for me when I first went to a social! I loved how well-supported the program is by faculty, the hospital and the residents. Glad to be a part of such a unique community.

    Future Goals:  I see myself working in a hospital as either a hospitalist or in Pulmonary Critical Care/ICU. I would also love to travel to Central or South America and provide medical care for a few months.

    Interesting Fact:  I have studied Spanish since I was 3 years old and went to live with different families in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Spain. I have also traveled to China where I tried pufferfish and fried hornets! 

    Why I chose ASVIM:  I chose St. Vincent because I had an amazing experience rotating here as a medical student. Everyone was always so eager to help and really included me as part of the team. The rotations were rigorous but the program still always made time for wellness and education and fostered an excellent environment for personal and professional growth.

    Interesting fact: I have two Bengal cats that I love to play with. Their names are Simba and Coco! Another interesting fact is that I was a college athlete, I played soccer.

    ASVIM: I chose St. Vincent for my residency because when I rotated as a medical student it felt like a family. The residency program is very focused on physician growth. We are all here to learn and grow together, in order to become the best physicians we can be and take wonderful care of our patients.

    Why did you choose ASVIM: Culture is a term that is overused but never underrated and it is what separated St. Vincent's IM Program from the rest. Everyone here is just as invested in your success as you are in your own success.

    Interesting Fact: I love to travel, whether that’s here in the U.S. or internationally! Shark cage diving off the coast of South Africa has been my favorite travel experience so far!

    Why did you choose ASVIM: The ability to train in a large, tertiary care hospital with a wide range of patient diversity and pathology was attractive to me. When I interviewed with St. Vincent, I was impressed by the family-like atmosphere within the internal medicine program. Everyone in the program is welcoming, encouraging, supportive, and always lending a helping hand!

    Interesting Fact: I am married to my wife of 4 years and we have a beautiful baby girl. I am a huge sports enthusiast and in particular soccer fan.

    Why did you choose ASVIM: I chose Ascension St. Vincent because growing up in the community I had seen the excellent care of the hospital first-hand through my own experiences and that of my friends and family. I was inspired by the hospital and knew it was a place I wanted to further my medical education.

    Interesting Fact: During my ICU rotation, I adopted a cat. His name is Goose and he is great. 

    Why did you choose ASVIM: I chose STVIM because of the welcoming atmosphere. My interview at STVIM was so fun and I enjoyed every minute of it. Since coming here, I've only met nice people and feel like this is exactly where I'm supposed to be.

    Why did you choose STVIM: I was initially drawn to St. Vincent for its commitment to serving the underserved, and the proximity to my family, but ultimately when I interviewed here It was the people I met, and the strong sense of community I felt, with a commitment to education that sold me!

    Future Goals: My plan is to practice primary care back near my hometown upon graduation. I love my training here in Indy, but nothing beats home!

    Interesting Fact: I love to cross stitch and play the violin...just not at the same time.

    Why did you choose ASVIM: St. Vincent was my first choice in a program because it truly offered everything that I value. I did my medical school at MU-COM which allowed me the opportunity to do some of my rotations at St. Vincent. The residents and attendings that I worked with were all amazing and actively cared about creating a culture focused on mental health, teaching, and helping residents to achieve their career desires. I knew very early on in my rotations as a medical student that I wanted to be apart of this program in order to maximize my training.

    Future Goals: I'm unsure what I would ultimately like to end up in but currently considering Hospitalist vs Cardiology fellowship vs Pulm/Crit fellowship. Whatever it is that I do, I hope to love my work! 

    Interesting Fact: Growing up I wanted to be a veterinarian and have had all sorts of pets throughout my life including guinea pigs, rats, snakes, tortoises, geckos, frogs, bunnies, dogs, hedgehogs and more! 

    Why did you choose ASVIM: I wanted to stay in the Indy area so I did an audition here as a student and loved my experience! The residents and faculty were easy to get along with and great at teaching and I enjoyed seeing a lot of interesting pathology.

    Future Goals: Not sure what I want to be when I grow up. I'm interested in lots of different areas of medicine, which is why I chose IM!

    Why did you choose ASVIM: I chose STVIM because I love the culture that is being built here, and I wanted to be a part of a community-based program with the resources and opportunities of a larger academic institution.

    Interesting Fact: I love hiking and my favorite hike was to the top of a glacier in Alaska.

    Why did you choose ASVIM: I knew this was the right place for me after I learned about the primary care track. The primary care track provides the in depth training of an internist while having plenty of time to rotate in outpatient specialties. I also loved the friendly, supportive culture of St. V!

    Interesting Fact: I am fascinated by heights and wanted to become a pilot much before I wanted to be a doctor, someday but certainly before I turn 50 I want a private pilot license!

    Why did you choose ASVIM: Ascension is very particular about the wellness of their physicians and encourages academic learning alongside clinical learning, something I was looking for in a residency program primarily. Also I just loved the vibe of our Program Director when she interviewed me. I believe I will be able to thrive as a physician here in the coming years.

    Why did you choose ASVIM: I chose STV because of the amazing experience I had back in 2019 when I was a sub-intern here. The entire team was very supportive and welcoming, and I really enjoyed the family-like atmosphere. The program provides a phenomenal learning environment where one can get exposed to a vast variety of complex cases and receive great teaching from both the staff and the residents. Having also witnessed the sense of camaraderie and compassion among the residents and the faculty, I decided that STV was the right place for my training. Here I am years later, back to this magnificent place as a new member of the FAMILY!

    Why did you choose ASVIM: As an Arizona native, I was eager to escape the heat, and Indy is a great city to live in! Ascension St. Vincent itself has all of the perks of a strong academic institution (large tertiary care center, transplant, burn, fellowship opportunities) but with a community feel. In the era of virtual interviews, it should've felt daunting to commit to a program site unseen, but I knew after my interview and social events that the people here have built a strong sense of community. It was easy to see that people really knew each other, and the faculty truly cares about resident well being.

    Interesting Fact:  My biggest travel goal is to hike all of the national parks. I have only checked off 9, so I still have a long way to go!

    Why did you choose ASVIM: I grew up in Northwest Indiana and have always loved this state. I wanted to come back for residency to be closer to my family, but also to serve the communities that have helped form me into who I am today. Ascension had a lot of professional and educational opportunities that I knew would help me achieve my future career goals. The people here are so kind and truly care about us becoming great doctors and growing as individuals.

    I did multiple rotations and St. Vincent during my third and fourth year of medical school and immediately fell in love with the supportive environment. It felt like each resident was set up for success and was clear that faculty, staff, and residents all treated each other with respect. The Primary Care Track is the only one of its kind in Indiana, allowing for strong outpatient care experience along with the inpatient experience necessary for IM.

    Why you chose ASVIM for Residency: Rotating at Ascension as a 3rd year medical student is when I realized I wanted to pursue IM as a residency. I absolutely love the supportive and kind environment at ASV that is so conducive to learning both as a medical student and as a resident physician. I also wanted to stay close to family and love living in Indy so ASV was the perfect fit!
