Ascension Saint Alexius

Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency

Who we are

The Ascension Saint Alexius Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency combines the high clinical volume of community-based hospitals with the high academic standards of a university-based program. Residents are educated in the full range of ob-gyn practices, including all subspecialties, such as high-risk obstetric care, pelvic reconstructive surgical procedures, laparoscopic procedures and robot-assisted surgical procedures.

Why choose us?

The Ascension Saint Alexius Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency provides training in a network of facilities throughout Chicago and its western suburbs. These facilities serve unique and diverse communities. Our program's residents have the opportunity to work with a variety of patient populations under the supervision of a wide array of key faculty. The program strives to provide its residents with a comprehensive education and training experience, and works hard to foster each resident's ability to hone excellent clinical skills. One of the program's major strengths is the diversity of clinical experiences it provides.

Every Friday, the program's residents have protected educational time that features lectures from specialists, grand rounds presentations, surgical skills labs, journal clubs and gynecologic pathology conferences. Protected time also includes activities aimed at wellness, well-being enhancement and resilience-building.

The program's residents teach medical students from the University of Illinois and Midwestern University — Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine completing their core third-year OB-GYN clerkships

The residents in the program provide instruction to undergraduate medical students at the advanced (fourth year) levels.

The program provides a training experience that is an appropriate balance between supervision and autonomy, as well as service and education.
