How to Apply
Ascension Illinois is committed to providing residents and fellows the opportunity to pursue excellence in their academic and professional endeavors. Ascension Illinois and Ascension Illinois Graduate Medical Education are committed to providing a working environment, free from all forms of discrimination, which includes discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information protected veteran status, or status in any group protected by federal, state and local law.
All applications for first-year positions are handled through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our ACGME number is 1201611102.
Interviews are conducted late October through January. We will offer a combination of in-person and virtual interviews. We ensure that all candidates will have an equitable experience regardless of in-person or virtual interview. Our program will use signals and geographic preference as part of our review process for interview selection. However, our screening process does not consider gender, sexual orientation, age, race, religion, ethnic origin, economic status or veteran status.
Resident matching programs
Our program participates in the following matches:
- National Resident Matching Program (NRMP): 1937120C0
Requirements for U.S. applications
Your ERAS application should include:
- Three letters of recommendation, preferably at least one from a practicing family physician
- A personal statement that includes your reasons for choosing family medicine and the characteristics you are looking for in a residency program
Interviews
Once your application is complete (aside from your medical school performance evaluation), it is reviewed by faculty to evaluate its content for a potential match in our program. This includes evaluation for teamwork, desire to be a family physician, medical school performance, grades and scores, and demonstrated interest and capacity for outside interests.
The medical school performance evaluation is an additional picture of overall performance. Medical school performance evaluations are typically released November 1 for seniors. Once this is released, an application is complete if all other information is present.
