Kayli Hurst, DPM

Hometown: Savannah, TN
Undergraduate: University of Tennessee at Knoxville
Podiatry School: Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery

Dr. Hurst was very fortunate to be exposed to medicine at a young age. During high school, she spent her free time helping out in her father’s podiatric private practice. She loved getting to know patients and experiencing first hand how much of a positive impact podiatry can make in someone's life.

After graduating high school, Dr. Hurst pursued a pre-medical track at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN, in hopes of applying to medical school or podiatry school. During her first month at college, she was able to enroll in a class that explored different medical specialties, allowing students to interact with physicians from all backgrounds in the Knoxville area. Through this experience and continued shadowing in podiatry, she easily realized that podiatry was the right choice for her. She was drawn to the hands-on nature of the profession, specialty surgical training, and the close relationships developed with patients.

Dr. Hurst then went on to attend Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery where she graduated in the top ten of her class with a doctorate of podiatric medicine and master of science in anatomy in 2021.

Dr. Hurst is excited to be completing her surgical residency training at Ascension St. Vincent. As a student, she immediately felt at home during her rotation at St. Vincent. She enjoyed the close-knit relationships between residents, the motivational learning atmosphere, and how enthusiastic each attending was to train residents and students. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to train alongside one of the best teams of podiatric physicians the specialty has to offer.

In her free time, Dr. Hurst enjoys spending time with her husband and dog, Maya, visiting family and friends in Tennessee, going out on the lake, and watching college football.

Podiatry School: California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA

Dr. Blake Wallace found his passion for podiatry after undergrad while working as a medical assistant for a podiatrist in Cason City, NV. At the age of 10 he was diagnosed with a fractured tibial sesamoid in his right foot, but was never fully treated for the pain. It wasn’t until he worked for the podiatrist where he was fitted with custom orthotics and finally found pain relief. He was also drawn to the surgical side of podiatry. Being a podiatric physician gives one the opportunity to offer both simple biomechanics treatments as well as surgical reconstruction to treat pathology.

After undergrad, Dr. Wallace fulfilled a lifelong dream of his to live in the mountains to be a skier and outdoorsman. It was while living in South Lake Tahoe, CA that he was introduced to the field of podiatry, fell in love with the profession, and decided to attend podiatric medical school. He went on to attend California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA. While at medical school he was active in club leadership, served on the class board, and graduated Valedictorian.

Ascension St Vincent is the perfect program for Dr. Wallace, and he couldn’t be more excited to spend 3 years of his surgical residency training here. The culture of the program and training it provides drew Dr. Wallace to the program. The attending physicians and residents of the program are always warm and welcoming to all, and have a passion for learning and teaching. The patient care is always filled with caring and compassion, felt by all. He is excited to master how to treat and manage foot pathology, from diabetic limb salvage to complex reconstructive surgery.

In his free time, Dr. Wallace enjoys spending time with his significant other, Dr. Rachel Martin, hosting guests in their new home and exploring Indianapolis. They enjoy kayaking, hiking, playing board games, going to the gym, and enjoying local eateries and breweries.
