What Graduates Are Saying
What did you enjoy most or find the most helpful about your clinical experience?
- I enjoyed rotating clinical sites to get different experiences from different places and it was nice to switch up technologists and clinical partners. Different people are helpful at different things.
- Get to see all different types of procedures / people and how to adjust things for each patient
- I like how the program was set up to have junior students at a clinical site with their senior students. Although many technologists are willing to help teach, it is also very helpful to learn from students who have been where you are and to hear their advice.
- I also really liked that were at a clinical site for a month, unlike other programs where the students are only at clinical sites for shorter time. It really allowed me to learn the equipment better and the ways of the facility.
What classroom tools helped you to learn the best?
- The presentations sent after lectures as well as the textbook
- Hands on experiences
- I really like when we would play “Who wants to be a Millionaire’”. It was very helpful to prepare for tests and quizzes to try to answer a question and highlight the information in our notes to go back and study.
- Study guides, review games and hands on learning activities
What is one thing that you learned in the radiography program that helped you be a successful employee?
- Critical thinking skills and how to be adaptable and work with different types of people
- I feel like the time we spent on learning technique really helped me as a technologist using AEC for certain exams doesn’t always produce a diagnostic image. Observing other technologists from other programs, I can tell they are less familiar with setting manual technique.
- Rotating through multiple locations helped me navigate different levels of patient care.
If you could give one piece of advice to a new incoming radiography student to help them succeed, what would it be?
- Be prepared to put in a lot of work not only during class and clinical time but at home while studying too. The coursework is not like other college classes and things will be really tough at first.
- Make time for your school life and personal life, both are very important to get through the program
- Figure out how you learn best. Not everyone learns the same, so figuring that out early on will help you a ton! Whether that’s taking the packets of information and turning it into quizlets, writing it out again or in chart form - do what works best for you.
- I would say practice makes perfect, so don’t be afraid to go in and practice outside of school hours with your classmates. You are going to feel exhausted but it goes fast. And always walk with confidence even when you have no idea what you are doing, because soon enough you will!
- X-ray school was the hardest 2 years of my life so far, but once you are an actual registered technologist it is the best! It is so much fun! Push through but also have fun while in school.
