The Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency program located in southwestern Indiana has been providing excellent training for foot and ankle surgeons for more than forty years. Our program boasts well-rounded surgical training with an emphasis in trauma and sports medicine. Our residents gain experience rotating to several regional facilities including the Ascension St. Vincent Orthopedic Hospital. We are the only podiatric residency program in Indiana affiliated with an orthopedic hospital. Led by a well-balanced group of attending podiatrists, our residents are exposed to different techniques while gaining proficiency through repetition of procedures. Residents typically exceed their minimum surgical numbers by the end of their first year of training.
Tyler Kelly, DPM, FACFAS has been the Program Director for the Ascension St. Vincent Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program since January 2019. His private practice focuses on ankle and foot care, reconstructive surgery, flatfoot reconstruction, ankle arthritis, and ankle stabilization. Originally from the west coast, Dr. Kelly moved to the Midwest to earn his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University in Cleveland, OH and completed his residency training at St. Mary’s Medical Center (currently Ascension St. Vincent Evansville) in Evansville, Indiana. He enjoys time with family and being outside.
Charlotte Reisinger, DPM is the preceptor for the weekly Resident Podiatry Clinic and attending physician for the Ascension St. Vincent Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Hospital. She also has a private Podiatry practice in Evansville. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the program as she specializes in forefoot surgeries and diabetic foot care. Outside the hospital, Dr. Reisinger enjoys camping and spending time with her family.
The Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency (PMSR) is a three-year program certified by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) with added certification in rear-foot and reconstructive ankle surgery (RRA). There are two authorized positions per year for a total of 6 residents. Weekly academics include a case and lecture portions. In addition to weekly academics residents have a monthly journal club, morbidity and mortality rounds, as well as cadaver labs.
First Year residents gain experience with taking hospital call as well as post-op clinic and wound center practice. A heavy call schedule across three regional hospitals provides abundant hands-on experience with infection and limb salvage surgery. A weekly post-op clinic provides residents an opportunity to see those patients post-operatively. While the Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Wound Care Clinic and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center offers exposure to further modalities.
Second and Third Year residents further their pre-op and post-op training through partnership with a large, private orthopedic practice. At this highly efficient clinic our residents are able to draw from the knowledge of several well-established podiatric foot and ankle surgeons while caring for patients through the course of their medical and surgical care.
