How to Apply
The Ascension Saint Francis Transitional Year Residency participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applications to the program are accepted through the AAMC’s Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The application deadline is December 1. Students who have received civilian deferments after the deadline for residency training who have interest in the TY program will be offered special consideration on a case by case basis. Individuals who receive such deferments are encouraged to call the program coordinator prior to submitting an application through ERAS. Students who have attained training positions through the early (San Francisco) match (which takes place after the deadline) who have interest in applying to the TY program will also be considered on a case by case basis. Individuals in this circumstance are also encouraged to contact the program’s coordinator prior to submitting as ERAS application.
Application to the program requires the following:
- Registration and Participation in ERAS
- Medical School Transcript
- USMLE transcript
- Dean’s Letter or MSPE
- Three Letters of Recommendation from faculty
- Personal Statement
- Curriculum Vitae
- Completed ERAS application
Applicants who meet the following minimum criteria are encouraged to apply: USMLE I scores of 200 and higher, successful completion of undergraduate medical school training on or before June 15 of the current academic year.
All selected potential candidates will be invited to visit the sponsoring institution, interview with the program director, meet some (or all) of the current residents, and tour the facility. Candidates coming for interviews should budget 3-4 hours for the entire experience.
