Jennifer Adams, MD

Medical School: University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
Specialty: : Diagnostic Radiology | Adventhealth Orlando
About Me: I grew up in San Francisco and lived in the city for most of my life. I moved 45 minutes from home to Palo Alto for undergrad then halfway across the country to Harlingen, TX, for medical school. A fun fact about me is that I studied engineering and creative writing in college and spent five months in London learning about SABRE engines and 19th century English poetry. I love being outdoors, trying out new workout classes and coffee spots, watching stand-up comedy and finding new music.
Why Ascension Resurrection: Ascension Resurrection's emphasis on striking the ideal balance between education, clinical service and lifestyle was the main factor in my decision-making process. The program stands out for its supportive and flexible leadership. During my time here so far, my coworkers have been incredibly kind and fun to work with. Additionally, the allure of Chicago, with its vibrant atmosphere and diverse cultural offerings, further solidified my choice. I am confident that this residency program will not only nurture my medical skills but also provide a well-rounded and enriching experience in an exciting city.

Marissa Borgese, MD, MS

Medical School: Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine
Specialty: : Diagnostic Radiology | Yale
About Me: I grew up in New York, lived in California throughout undergrad, working, and graduate school, then moved to the Chicago area for medical school. In my free time, I love spending time outdoors and connecting with friends and family.
Why Ascension Resurrection: I chose Ascension Resurrection after having a wonderful experience rotating through the surgical ICU as a fourth-year medical student; everyone was incredibly kind and invested in the learning of others. My decision was solidified after hearing about the overwhelmingly positive experiences of past residents and learning just how much the program faculty care about and support their residents.

Elliot Chang, MD

Medical School: University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health
Specialty: : Diagnostic Radiology | Mayo Clinic
About Me: A lifelong Midwesterner, I grew up in Wisconsin, went to undergrad at Northwestern, returned to Wisconsin for medical school, and am staying in the best part of the country for residency! I like to stay active in my freetime by powerlifting, running, biking, and hiking. I then proceed to end most workouts with ample amounts of desserts. I am aiming to participate in an Iron Man sometime in 2024. I also enjoy traveling and was fortunate to go on a six-week solo backpacking trip throughout Southeast Asia between medical school and residency.
Why Ascension Resurrection: As a future radiologist, I prioritized finding an intern year program that would provide me ample opportunity to experience the breadth of medical specialties I may one day interact with through radiology. Resurrection was unique in the number of elective blocks it provided to residents (5 in total!). Chicago is also a fantastic place to live for a year, and the program’s ability to recruit similar-minded residents has provided a phenomenal base of friends/co-workers to enjoy the intern year with, both inside and outside the hospital.

Philip Gilroy, MD

Medical School: Rush Medical College
Specialty: : Diagnostic Radiology | Northwestern
About Me: I’m originally from the northwest Chicago suburbs and now live closer to the city with my wife and young son. In my free time, you can spot me taking the kiddo to neighborhood parks and the occasional downtown museum — there are countless world-class attractions for both kids and adults. When I’m not pushing a stroller or a swing, billiards and hockey are other activities I enjoy.
Why Ascension Resurrection: Resurrection is the perfect mix of a community hospital with enough variety and complexity to offer an excellent educational experience in a thoroughly positive culture. The program administrators could not be more supportive of the residents. You will grow tremendously as a new physician and be well prepared for advanced training.

Mary Grace Kenny, MD

About Me: I grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and went to the University of Notre Dame for undergrad. I'm excited to be back in the Chicago area with my family and friends! In my freetime, I enjoy yoga sculpt, trying new restaurants, and running along the lakefront.
Why Ascension Resurrection: During my interview day, the residents seemed genuinely happy, and the faculty and staff seemed very kind and supportive. My time here has already confirmed this. This program provides a strong medicine base through the core rotations, while also allowing for plenty of elective time. I'd highly recommend Ascension Resurrection to prospective applicants!

Nicole Libbey, MD

Medical School: Georgetown University SOM
Specialty: Radiation Oncology | University of Michigan
About Me: I am originally from Michigan, but consider Chicago to be home as well. I love running and practicing yoga, spending time outdoors with friends and family, and trying new restaurants and dessert shops around the city.
Why Ascension Resurrection: The residents and faculty seemed kind, genuine, and happy, and I had a feeling that I would be supported and thrive here. I was very excited about being able to continue to immerse myself in the wide range of electives offered with the program!

Isabella Liu, MD

Medical School: University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
Specialty: Diagnostic Radiology | Yale
About Me: I grew up in the greater Washington D.C. metro area and went to college at the University of Virginia. I spent the past six years in the Midwest completing a Master's program and medical school at the University of Cincinnati. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, exploring the cafes and restaurants in Chicago, and traveling.
Why Ascension Resurrection: I wanted to be in Chicago for my intern year because my husband was going to be in Chicago for business school. I chose Ascension Resurrection because I wanted to be at a community hospital with an academic feel. You'll be able to take care of high-acuity patients and learn about complex medicine topics while also enjoying a balanced curriculum with generous elective time. I started the year on ICU night float, which is one of the tougher rotations of the year. Despite this, I've met many people willing to teach and the learning environment at Resurrection is truly supportive and encouraging. I'm very happy with my decision to train here!

Benjamin Loomis, MD

Medical School: Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Specialty: Diagnostic Radiology | University of Colorado
About Me: I grew up in northern Michigan in a small town along Lake Michigan and went to the University of Michigan for undergrad. I met my now wife there and right after school we moved out to Chicago for work. I spent a couple of years working here before getting to extend my time in Chicago by going to Northwestern for medical school. While I love Chicago and the great time I have spent here, my true love is the mountains as I am an avid hiker, backpacker and skier. Since those might not be the most abundant activities in Chicago, you can find me enjoying all the city parks and lakes with my dogs or playing my favorite video games.
Why Ascension Resurrection: There are so many great reasons as to why I chose to work at Ascension Resurrection for my intern year. However, one of the biggest factors must be the reputation of the program for being a great place of learning, camaraderie, and wellness. Having lived in Chicago for so long, I had the benefit of talking to many residents who either had done this intern year or knew someone who had, and I can say without a doubt that I never heard one bad thing about it. The interview day made it clear that those stories were not exaggerated, and the program and the people truly care and are excited to have us young doctors working here. Add to all of this the community hospital environment with a patient centered approach to medicine and you have the perfect setup for a great intern year.

Alexander Matyga, DO

Medical School: Midwestern University – Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine
Specialty: Radiology
About Me: Originally from Oak Lawn, IL and have been in the Chicago area my entire life. I went to UIC for undergrad, then I got a master’s degree and did a research year before going to medical school. If you don’t see me in the hospital, more likely than not I am either on a golf course or I am in the gym. I am also interested in exploring the city and finding new places to eat.
Why Ascension Resurrection: During my research year, I heard from fellow classmates about the program and all of its strengths. The residents and attendings had great relationships that helped to create low stress environments while also being conducive towards learning. Resurrection is a highly supportive environment that will help you to pursue your goals. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to be here at Resurrection.

Grace McCarthy, MD

Medical School: University of Tennessee College of Medicine
Specialty: Diagnostic Radiology | Medical College of Wisconsin
About Me: I am from Memphis, Tennessee and I did all of my undergrad, graduate and medical schooling in Tennessee. I was lucky enough to meet my husband during the med school journey and we got married during our first year of medical school. When I have enough free time, I love trying new crafting projects like painting or DIY projects around the house. I am equally down for a fun day exploring Chicago and new restaurants or staying at home and watching How I Met Your Mother.
Why Ascension Resurrection: During the application process I was looking for programs that would support me as a human while being surrounded by good teachers and good people. Bonus points for being in a larger city to facilitate couples matching. I did not know much about Resurrection before applying, but I am so glad I found this program! It was evident on my interview day how supportive and caring Dr. Fahrenbach, Dr. Stephan, and Genesis are. Since arriving, that support has continued and I’ve felt incredibly welcomed by administration and my co-residents! I am so glad and thankful to be here!

Brett Musialowicz, MD

Medical School: Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
Specialty: : Interventional Radiology | New York Presbyterian Columbia
About Me: I am a New Jersey native who arrived in Chicago for the first time for intern year and could not be loving it more. During my free time, I am a musician, distance runner, avid reader, sports fan, and concert goer. Although I am away from the Jersey Shore (there's no better place), I am loving Lake Michigan during the summer, all of the delicious restaurants nearby, and the 606/Lakeshore Path.
Why Ascension Resurrection: During my interview day, I quickly discovered how cohesive and welcoming the entire program was here at Ascension Resurrection. The program offers an excellent blend between the many rotations and electives offered, there are so many learning opportunities. The residents that I have met here are so supportive and friendly, it is even better than I could have imagined! You will fall in love with the city of Chicago which provides everything you could ask for in a home.

Margaret Scollan, MD

Medical School: Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons
Specialty: Dermatology | Columbia University
About Me: I was born and raised outside New York City. Although my husband, Jeff, and I are lifelong tri-staters, we have always wanted to live in Chicago and are excited to embrace our year in the Midwest. A fun fact about me is that I have a master's degree in archaeology, which I earned while living in England and yes, I did get to go on some archaeological digs. I'm most relaxed when doing yoga, baking sourdough bread and reading historical fiction — my favorite is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles.
Why Ascension Resurrection: Even through a Zoom screen, it was immediately apparent to me on my interview day how warm and inviting Dr. Fahrenbach, Dr. Stephan, Genesis, and the entire team at Res are. The opportunity to live and work in Chicago on top of a wonderful TY program that offers a wide-range of clinical opportunities seemed too good to be true, but it's the real deal!

Aoi Shimomura, MD

Medical School: Loyola Stritch School of Medicine
Specialty: Radiation Oncology | Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
About Me: I grew up in Wilmette, IL and went to the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign for undergrad. I took somewhat of a non-traditional route and had a career in intraoperative neuromonitoring for several years before matriculating into medical school. In my free time, I enjoy being active with my husband and our Hungarian Vizsla dog (our first born child). I was a competitive figure skater for many years growing up. To this day, I still love winter sports and enjoy skiing out west every winter. I am looking forward to moving to Los Angeles to enjoy the warm weather, while still having the option to enjoy winter activities when I want to.
Why Ascension Resurrection: I heard from many previous graduates that Resurrection was THE place to be for my TY year. On my interview day, the PD and program coordinator were both so genuine and kind, that Iimmediately knew that it was the place for me. The TY residents seemed to all get along very well and enjoyed being a part of the program. Now that I am a month in, I can confidently say that the program has been extremely supportive of us. I am so happy and honored to be a part of the program.

About Me: I was born and raised in Houston, TX. I love exploring Chicago neighborhoods and restaurants, running, and playing tennis.
Why Ascension Resurrection: I had sights set on Chicago for intern year because I wanted to be in a big city for residency. My interview day at Resurrection was an incredibly positive experience and highlighted the inclusive culture and community of the program. Specifically, the camaraderie amongst residents and the responsiveness of our program director and program coordinator stood out to me. The transitional year curriculum provides a perfect balance of core rotations to learn fundamentals and electives to rotate through a broad variety of subspecialties. As a resident at Res, I cannot imagine a better place for my intern year!
