Chief Residents

CHARLES HILL, DO

Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Undergraduate: Purdue University

Hometown: Fort Wayne, Indiana

About: I have been fortunate to be able to stay in Indianapolis during my residency and take care of the community that I have called home for the last 10 years. After residency, I plan on staying in Indiana and pursuing a career in pediatric hospitalist medicine. As chief, I am most looking forward to working with the program to help continue to develop a strong residency training program, and to advocate for the health and well-being of the residents.

2022

NEGGIN AFSARI, DO

Medical School: Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, CA

Why I chose St. Vincent: I envisioned myself thriving best in a smaller program where one can build stronger connections and truly feel part of a family. With its focus on compassion, patient care, academia, and teamwork, St. Vincent was the best fit for me.

ANITA M. FRIES, DO

Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent: I wanted a program with the volume and acuity of a large program, but with a tight-knit group of residents. The support and camaraderie I witnessed amongst the residents was something I knew would be vital to my success and wellness while enduring residency.

RACHEL FUNDENBERGER, DO

Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent: I chose Peyton Manning Children's Hospital because of the close-knit environment and family-feel that you get from day one. The faculty and residents truly care about one another and our success. I was looking for a free-standing children's hospital that offered a wide array of opportunities and patient diversity, and PMCH offers just that.

VARUN GULATI, DO

Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent: It was important for me to stay close to home. After rotating at PMCH during my 3rd and 4th year, I was convinced that the program would help me become an excellent pediatrician and pursue any career in pediatrics.

LINDSAY KERWIEN, DO

Medical School: Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Virginia

Why I chose St. Vincent: I am so thrilled with my choice of Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital for residency! I chose PMCH because it is a stand-alone children’s hospital with the availability of resources and access to sub-specialties, while maintaining an encouraging community feel of a smaller program. Having support and a strong bond between residents was an instrumental factor in my decision to make PMCH my home for the next three years. The other things I love about the program is the robust and established Neonatal ICU, the opportunities for advocacy, and of course, all of the wonderful perks of being in the large city of Indianapolis!

RACHAEL PAPPA, DO

Medical School: Ohio University Heritage College of Medicine – Dublin

Why I chose St. Vincent: The amount of support and positivity I experienced throughout my interactions with individuals of the St. Vincent community clearly stood out to me. After spending time with the residents and staff, I realized that my personality would mesh well and that my top values in a pediatric program aligned with those of PMCH. I valued the strong emphasis on education and I was interested in training at a program that promoted a culture of strong relationships and collaboration among the healthcare team.

2023

THOMAS (TC) FISHER-HEATH, DO

Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent:I chose to train at PMCH because I wanted to train at a place that would set me up for the most success as a resident. I loved the program when I had the chance to rotate as a medical student & felt like it was a great fit for me after my interview! We have 1-on-1 learning opportunities with faculty who are excited to teach, a close knit group of residents & a wide variety of patient presentations from which we learn.

SIBIL GILL, DO

Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent : Ichose PMCH because it provides the perfect combination of educational opportunities in a close-knit community. Also, everyone is so kind and truly wants you to succeed!

KATHERYNNE GREVE, DO

Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent: When applying to residency, it was important to me to find a program where I felt I could grow as a physician in both knowledge & compassion & have a program invested in supporting that growth. As a rotating medical student at PMCH, it was readily apparent that this was a program where that would happen.

COURTNEY KELLY, MD

Medical School: American University of the Caribbean

Why I chose St. Vincent: From the program administration, to the attendings, to each resident I spoke to at PMCH, I could tell how intentionally close-knit these people were. More importantly, I knew the culture of this program would do more for my success as a physician than any other single factor. This has only become more apparent as I have started working here-my senior/chief resident even offered to take care of my puppy on my first overnight Shift.

MARINA TIPOLD, DO

Medical School: Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine-Auburn

Why I chose St. Vincent: I chose PMCH because of the amazing facility, residents , and opportunities both the hospital and Indianapolis have to offer. The family atmosphere & close resident relationship stood out to me right away. I was so impressed with PMCH's ability to reach urban, suburban and rural populations all in one clinic. I knew I would love it here, but to say PMCH has already stolen my heart is an understatement.

RYAN UNRUH, MD

Medical School: American University of Antigua College of Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent: I chose Peyton Manning Children's Hospital because it boasts a wide variety of subspecialties & patient diversity to instill an environment of learning & patient centered care. Not being from the area, I really envisioned my ideal program to be one where the residents & attendings worked closely together creating a 'family' rather than 'coworker' feel. During my interview at PMCH, I felt this program met my criteria for an outstanding program & I could not be happier about being a part of the PMCH family.

2024

WILLIAM AKIN, DO

Medical School: Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent: I chose PMCH because it is a smaller, close knit program and the program sets you up for success with mentors from day one.

SALI AVADES, MD

Medical School: American University of Antigua College of Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent: I chose PMCH because I wanted to be at a program with a small, close-knit group of supportive residents and faculty, while also being at a place where I will be exposed to a wide variety of pathology. During the interview season, it was evident to me that this was a program filled with people that will be supportive and caring enough to help me become the most well-rounded pediatrician!

BROOKE GREENE, MD

Medical School: American University of the Caribbean

Why I chose St. Vincent: I chose Peyton Manning Children's Hospital after the resident social and the interview, I knew I couldn't find a better program. Everyone was so welcoming and I knew I would find my forever friends and my second family among the residents, leadership, and staff. Also with my interest in neonatology, I knew the training in the NICU here would be impossible to beat. I couldn't be happier to call Indy and PMCH my new home!

THOMAS ROBINSON, MD

Medical School: American University of the Carribean

Why I chose St. Vincent: I chose PMCH because in my interviews, even though virtual, I was inspired by the faculty's passion for teaching and the program's emphasis on training residents to share in that passion.

ERRIS ROWAN, DO

Medical School: Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent: I chose PMCH because of all the friendly and kind people I met on my virtual interview day! Everyone genuinely seemed to care and treat each other like family.

VIJAY SUBRAMANIAM, DO

Medical School: Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose St. Vincent: I chose PMCH because I wanted a small program with a family atmosphere that would encourage me to get out of my comfort zone and grow as a physician. I love that the residents and attendings are passionate about teaching and truly care about helping you succeed. Indianapolis is an amazing place to live and I couldn't have picked a better place to train.
