When I was looking at programs for residency, I felt so at peace when I thought of spending my next three years at PMCH. It is truly the best of both worlds; a community feel with high-level care! Additionally, when I rotated at PMCH as a medical student, I saw how much the attendings cared about making the residents better physicians and that it was a safe and healthy learning environment. Without a doubt, this has held true!

Why did you choose St. Vincent?: I was initially drawn to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital for its unique blend of a close-knit, rural feel, strong learning opportunities, and the chance to care for communities with limited access to healthcare. However, after the second look, the warmth and friendliness of the residents, attendings, and staff—and their confidence in the program’s preparation under Dr. Rothstein’s leadership—truly affirmed that this was the right place for me.

Why did you choose St. Vincent?: I chose Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital because it’s the rare kind of program where you can work hard, learn a ton, and still feel like you can show up as your full, authentic self. Even as someone moving in from out of state, I felt completely welcomed — like I’d already found my people. The culture here is close-knit and encouraging, the kind where your team will push you to be your best, cheer you on when you succeed, and make sure you’re laughing through the chaos on the busiest days. Indiana’s friendly, down-to-earth vibe is the perfect match for my small-town roots, and the endless opportunities for sunshine and outdoor adventures make it feel like home. I also love that my DO background is celebrated here, with plenty of space for holistic, hands-on care. It’s exactly the balance I was looking for: challenging training, genuine support, and a team that makes residency not just doable, but fun. It’s the perfect mix of professional growth and genuine camaraderie — and yes, even as a loyal Vikings fan, I can admit there’s something inspiring about training in a children’s hospital with just a little bit of quarterback magic in the air!

It was important for me to not just be a number in a sea of residents (especially coming from abroad), but to have a more familial residency experience. I valued that at PMCH residents get to know the attendings and residents have each other’s backs. I was also drawn to PMCH because it is a free-standing children’s hospital with a pediatric ED and level 4 NICU that serves a diverse group of patients in Indianapolis and the surrounding area. With its many international cuisines, ample outdoor activities, and high standard of living, Indy is truly a hidden gem!
