Preceptors

Mitchell Stein, Pharm.D., BCCCP (mitchell.stein@ascension.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Emergency Medicine/Critical Care and Residency Program Director. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan and completed his PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Ascension Borgess Hospital. Dr. Stein is involved with trauma operations, emergency medical services, and manages the medication history service provided by the pharmacy department. His areas of interest include emergency medicine, stroke, and infectious diseases.

 

Katherine Montgomery, Pharm.D., BCCP (katherine.guido@ascension.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Internal Medicine-Focus in Cardiology.  She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy in Pittsburgh, PA and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Ascension Borgess Hospital.  Dr. Guido is involved with patient care activities on one of the medical/surgical floors and works with patients in the Heart Failure Clinic. Her areas of interest include internal medicine, heart failure, anticoagulation, and infectious disease.

 

Justin Rak, Pharm.D., BCCCP (justin.rak@ascension.org) received his Pharm.D. degree from the University of Toledo. Following graduation, he completed an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and an ASHP-accredited PGY-2 Critical Care Residency at the University Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Dr. Rak is currently a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Critical Care at Borgess and additional interest areas include infectious diseases.

 

Lacy Worden, Pharm.D., BCIDP (lacy.worden@ascension.org) is a clinical pharmacist in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship. She earned her PharmD at Ferris State University College of Pharmacy and completed her PGY-1 and PGY-2 infectious diseases residency training at Mercy Health Saint Mary's in Grand Rapids, MI. Dr. Worden’s practice and research interest areas include microbiology, antimicrobial stewardship, and antimicrobial resistance. 

 

Nathan L Kanous II, Pharm.D., BCPS (nathan.kanous@ascension.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Ambulatory Care at the Ascension / Borgess Woodbridge Family Practice Clinic in Portage, Michigan. He received his PharmD from Ferris State University and completed an ASHP-accredited ambulatory care residency at the William S. Middleton Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Madison, Wisconsin.  Since graduation, Nathan has worked in many practice settings including academia, the pharmaceutical industry, pharmacy benefits and managed care.  His clinical interests focus on ambulatory endocrinology and cardiology, geriatrics, and de-prescribing.

 

Amy Bower, Pharm.D., BCPS (amy.quinones@ascension.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Internal Medicine at Borgess. She was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada and completed part of her undergraduate training at Lake Superior State University. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Ferris State University in 2008. Her current areas of interest include oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, and neurology.


Reagan Smith, Pharm.D. (reagan.scott1@ascension.org) is a clinical pharmacist in the inpatient pharmacy at Borgess. She obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Husson University and fulfilled her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Ascension Borgess Hospital. Dr. Smith is trained in many areas of the inpatient pharmacy, including order verification, IV room, OR, and the emergency department. Her administrative experience derives from leading the departments Model Community initiative and spearheading scheduling. Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her rambunctious son, learning new jokes, and getting tattoos. 


Ryan Bickel, Pharm.D., MHA, FASHP (ryan.bickel@ascension.org) serves as the Director of Pharmacy Services for Ascension Borgess, which includes Borgess Hospital, two critical access hospitals, a specialty hospital, and two retail pharmacies. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University and his Master of Health Administration degree from Simmons College in Boston, MA. Dr. Bickel completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI, and is a diplomate of the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Academy. Prior to his current role, he has worked as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director, and Pharmacy Manager. His primary areas of interest are pharmacy leadership, medication safety, quality improvement, antimicrobial stewardship, and emergency management.
