How to Apply
The Ascension Saint Joseph - Chicago Transitional Year Residency participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applications to the residency program must be made through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), and must be submitted electronically. For more information on how to apply via ERAS, contact your medical school Dean of Student Affairs, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), or visit the ERAS website for application procedures.
Six new positions for graduate training are available in June of each year. Applications are accepted and reviewed from mid-September through the end of October each year. Initial review of individual applications begins prior to receipt of all required application documents. However, an applicant cannot be considered for an interview unless a complete application has been received by the November 1 deadline. A complete application consists of the following:
- ERAS common application form
- Medical school transcripts
- USMLE or COMLEX transcripts
- Dean's letter/MSPE
- Three letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
- ECFMG Status Report (if applicable)
- Photo
Interviews are conducted from early November through early February of each year. Interview dates are available to invited candidates on a first come, first served basis. However, a waiting list is maintained for all dates and sometimes interview slots become available on dates that have previously filled. Interview days consist of individual interviews with faculty members, attendance at department educational conferences and a resident-guided tour of our facilities.
Ascension Saint Joseph - Chicago adheres to a policy of equal opportunity in the appointment process. Furthermore, all applicants must successfully complete the USMLE Parts I And II in the medical sciences and be legally eligible for employment.
