Curriculum
The Ascension Saint Joseph - Chicago Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with the added credential in reconstructive rear foot/ankle surgery has a large number of active affiliated training sites where residents actively participate in clinics and perform surgical procedures. The affiliated sites are receptive to residency training and the attending staff affords every resident the opportunity to perform surgical procedures at their own level of competency.
Year 1
Your first year as a resident will be spent primarily at Ascension Saint Joseph - Chicago. Several core rotations will be completed, as well as an introduction to podiatric hospital call and inpatient care. All rotations will provide outstanding educational experiences to prepare you for your APMLE board exam, as well as provide you with a knowledge base to form you into a well-rounded podiatric physician.
Year 2
During your second year, you will spend the majority of your days in the Operating Room or covering hospital inpatients. You will gather further knowledge on treating consults as well as post-operatively managing surgical patients. The majority of residents achieve their required case log at this point in their residency careers.
Year 3
During your final year, you will spend the majority of time in the Operating Room performing increasingly specialized surgeries with limb reconstructive experts, as well as traveling to external sites to gain additional skills in advanced rearfoot and reconstructive surgery.
