Ascension Saint Joseph - Joliet

Pharmacy Residency

The Ascension Saint Joseph - Joliet Pharmacy Residency is designed to develop the entry-level practitioner into a clinician who can excel in the provision of pharmaceutical care to multiple patient populations.

The resident will be provided with advanced training and learning experiences in pharmacy practice that build upon those obtained throughout their pharmacy career. Our clinical staff will work alongside the resident to foster the development of his/her knowledge base and improve his/her clinical skills. The resident will be encouraged to explore his/her current practice interests while concentrating on developing areas of strength and improving areas of weakness.

Why choose us?

Residency goal

The goal of this program is to provide the resident with training experiences that will enhance their knowledge base and skills in a variety of clinical areas to ensure that they can provide effective pharmaceutical care and promote positive patient outcomes. The experiences provided by the program will teach the resident to function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team and hold them accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes.

Upon completion of the program, the resident will be an experienced clinician qualified to assume a clinical pharmacist position in a community hospital setting, an adjunct faculty appointment or further training in a PGY-2 residency program.

Clinical pharmacy experiences

The resident will begin the year with a one-month orientation period. Once orientation has been completed, the resident will begin their required rotations.

Each required rotation, with exception to longitudinal experiences, will be five weeks in length. Elective rotations will be scheduled based on resident interest and availability. The length of elective rotations may range from 2–8 weeks in length and will be adjusted to meet the needs of the resident. Selection and scheduling of elective rotations will occur at the beginning of the year and will be updated on a quarterly basis by the residency program director (RPD) following discussions with the resident and preceptors.
